Bike Chain Replacement Calculator
Estimate how many miles your chain will last — and when to replace it — based on the riding you actually do.
A rule-of-thumb estimate — always confirm real wear with a chain checker. Replace at 0.75% (0.5% on 11/12-speed) to protect your cassette.
Frequently asked questions
How many miles does a bike chain last?
A typical road chain lasts roughly 2,000–3,000 miles, but gravel, mountain and e-bike riding, wet conditions and poor lubrication can cut that by half. The calculator adjusts a baseline for your surface, conditions and chain care.
When should I replace my bike chain?
Replace a chain when it reaches 0.75% wear (0.5% for 11- and 12-speed drivetrains), measured with a chain checker. Replacing on time protects your cassette and chainrings, which cost far more than a chain.
Is chain wear about miles or time?
Miles, not the calendar. A chain wears from the distance and load you put through it, which is why Pedal Wrencher counts the miles you ride on Strava instead of guessing from a date.
